I Flourish
by Mohamad Said Bazzi
(2020)
I flourish inside the cocoons
of fragrant memories
When Beirut was young
and her hills slumbered
in elongated time
The villagers all intoxicated with sumac
the dusty paths strewn
with the tender cottony blooms
underfoot
red staining skin
A freckled beauty
a rare affection
Gone forever
to the lost graveyards
of depleted lifetimes
