Over The Sea

1 /
You lost me
Over the sea
You gave me
To a muddy landslide
In an urban decree
You dealt me
Like a surrendered card
Like a broken hand
In a game of debris
My beloveds
Who do not love me
Not in my sadness
Nor in my glee.
2 /
How often will it shroud me
And continue to befall me
Like a witch’s spell?
If I lay myself in the nighttime
And let my eyes open
And let my heart breathe
I can see all too well
In the late hours
Of the deepest nighttime
I can see tomorrow
And its dark carousel
You left me
Reaching upward
Reaching downward
Floating weightless
In this dim citadel.
3 /
A father
A son
A promise
And a dream stretched too far
I hear you
I remember
Through the years
Through the shutters
From here
From this seismic bazaar
I sleep here
In this ruckus
I sit here
And I walk here
Among these Tatar
The ending is worthy
Of a thousand blue nighttimes
A thousand fond consternations
The ending is worthy
Of the death of the Czar
Any Ceasar or Czar
