The Sitar Strums
by Mohamad Said Bazzi
(2020)
The sitar strums casual
Earnest pings
To heartfelt vacancies
Hovering beneath a flowering terrace
An old woman looks beyond
The duplicity of her
Routine emptying
How often has a blunder
Filled the thirsty recesses
Of a meager canister
A reminder from
A thousand year lifting
Artisan drippings
Into washed away sand
Snagged edges of land
The singing sitar bends
Moments into focus
Tells me to yet tend
The fractured sprig
Desire and despondence
Finding their way up
To the incinerating daylight
